Jetta: waiting on a flange puller tool so I can take off the flange, remove broken bolts, reattach, attach new axle, hopefully have a runner

Golf: I think the clutch cable auto adjust mechanism is fucked. When I couldn't get in gear, that's what it felt like (has happened before), but the normal fix of taking the cable off and resetting the mechanism by hand did not work. Manual adjust cable has already been ordered.

Okay, for the record, I'm 90% sure this will actually be an easy fix. Maybe one of those rare "it fixes itself" issues. The mechanism that failed (look at my other replies on this post) works poorly when it's humid, and this happened about 30 minutes before a downpour. So, I guess I'll look at it more tomorrow.

L ater cars 99.5 and up like my Golf have coils that are susceptible to moisture issues when they get old and develop fine cracks. Too many cheap coils out there. Get a decent aftermarket or VW OEM.

I don’t think they put the 2ZZ in the Echo, but I’m sure swapping one in would still be easier than even “basic” shit on a VW :p

And yeah, I’m still pissed Toyota didn’ t sell the Echo hatch in the US (cut they did sell it in Canada)
